Harm Reduction 101

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is pleased to offer a free Harm Reduction 101 training to any interested community members or groups. The Department of Health provides training and education in order to increase community support for harm reduction principles, programs, and strategies.

What is Harm Reduction?

Harm reduction (HR) is a set of practical ideas and strategies to reduce the negative consequences of drug use.


Our Mission

Reduce the risks associated with drug use, such as overdose and infectious diseases; and to improve the physical, mental and societal health for people who use drugs and our community.

  • Explain relevant theory
  • Demonstrate the need for HR interventions
  • Present data on the effectiveness of HR
  • Dispel myths about HR
  • Describe HR programs in Anne Arundel County

Harm Reduction 101 Training: Registration and Interest Form

Use this form to register as an individual for an already scheduled Harm Reduction 101 training or to express interest in scheduling a training session for your group. In the latter case, we will schedule a training at a day and time that works for you. We can come to you, host, or do the training virtually. The length of the training can vary from a one-hour basic training to a more in-depth two-hour long training. There are no requirements to take this fun, interactive training. Completion certificates will be provided upon request. After the training, we hope you will collaborate with us to implement and improve harm reduction strategies and programs in Anne Arundel County.

Schedule a Training

Register for an existing training or schedule a new 1-2 hour training for your group. We can come to you, host, or do it virtually.

The training is for adults 18 and older. No other requirements to take this fun, interactive training. Completion certificates will be provided upon request.
